a chance event. (L.) In Chaucer, C. T. 8483.—Lat. accident-,
stem of accidens, happening, pres. pt.—Lat. accidere, to
happen.—Lat. ac (= ad ); and cadere, to
fall. See Chance.
Der. accident-al; also accidence (French; from Lat. accident-ia).
