AGGRESS,  to attack.  (F.,—L.)   Not in early use.   Either from F. aggresser, or from the stem of aggressor, which is purely Latin, and occurs in Blackstone's Commentaries, b. iv. c. I.   Cotgrave gives 'Aggresser, to assail, assault, set on.'—Lat. aggressus, pp. of aggredior, I assail.—Lat. ad (ag- before g); gradior, I walk, go.—Lat. gradus, a step.   See Grade.   Der. aggress-ion, aggress-ive, aggress-ive-ness, aggress-or.
