AGRICULTURE,
the art of cultivating fields. (L.) Used by Sir T. Browne,
Vulg. Errors, bk. vi. c. 3. §
7.—Lat. agricultura (Cicero).—Lat. agri, gen. of ager,
a field; and cultura, culture. Ager is cognate with E.
acre, and cultura is from Lat. colere, to till, fut. act.
