AMBIENT, going
about. (Lat.) Used by Milton, P. L. vi. 480.—Lat. ambient-,
stem of Lat. ambiens, going about.—Lat. amb- (shortened form
of ambi-), about; and iens, going, pres. pt. of ire, to
go. 1. On the prefix, see Ambidextrous.
2. The verb ire is from ✔I,
to go; cf. Skt. and Zend i, to go; Fick, i. 506.
