AMPHIBIOUS, living
both on land and in water. (Gk.) In Sir T. Browne's Vulg.

ἀμφίβιος, living a double life, i.e. both on land and water.—Gk.
ἀμφί, here used in the sense of 'double;' and
βίος, life, from the same root at
the Lat. uiuidus; see Vivid.
