AMPHITHEATRE, an
oval theatre. (Gk.) From Gk.
ἀμφί-
θέατρον, a theatre with seats all round the arena. [Properly neuter
from
ἀμφιθέατρος, i.e. seeing all
round.]—Gk. ἀμφί, on both sides; and
θέατρον, a theatre, place for seeing
shows.—Gk.
θεάμαι, I
