BDELLIUM,
a precious substance. (Hebrew.) In Gen. ii. 12, it is joined
with 'gold' and 'onyx-stone;' in Numb. xi. 7, manna is likened to it in colour.
It is not known what it is. In Holland's Pliny, xii. 9, it is the
gum of a tree. At any rate, the word is made from the Hebrew bedólach,
whatever that may mean. [†]

βδολχόν,
μαδέλκον, which Lassen derives from a supposed Skt.
