IMMERGE, to
plunge into. (L.) 'Immerged, or Immersed, dipt
in or plunged;' also 'Immerse, to plunge or dip over head and ears;'
Kersey, ed. 1715. Immerse occurs as a pp. in Bacon, Nat. Hist.
s. 114.—Lat. immergere, pp. immersus, to plunge into.—Lat.
im- = in, in, into; and mergere, to plunge,
sink. See Im- (2) and Merge.
Der. immerse, from pp. immersus; immers-ion.
