LEVITY,
lightness of weight or of conduct. (L.) In Shak. All's Well, i.
2. 35. Not a French word, but formed by analogy with words in -ty
(= F. -té) from Lat. leuitatem, acc. of leuitas, lightness.—Lat.
leuis, light; which (by comparison with other languages) stands for leguis.
Cognate with E. light. See Light
(2).
