MACADAMISE,
to pave a road with small, broken stones. (Hybrid; Gael. and Heb.; with
F. suffix.) 'Macadamising, a system of road-making devised
by Mr. John Macadam, and published by him in an essay, in 1819,' &c.; Haydn,
Dict. of Dates. Macadam = son of Adam; from Gael. mac,
son; and Heb. ádám, a man, from the root ádam, to be red.
