NEBULA,  a little cloud; a cluster of very faintly shining stars.  (L.)   Modern and scientific.—Lat. nebula, a mist, little cloud; allied to nubes, a cloud, nimbus, cloud. + Gk. νεφέλη, a cloud; dimin. of νέφος, cloud, mist. + G. nebel, mist, fog.   β. The Gk. νέφος is cognate with Skt. nabhas, sky, atmosphere, æther.NABH, to swell, burst; Skt. nabh, to burst, injure; from the 'bursting' of rain-clouds and storms.   See Nave (1).   Der. nebul-ar, nebul-ose, nebul-ous, nebul-os-i-ty.
