OCCIDENT,
the west. (F.,—L.) Not now common. M.E. occident,
Chaucer, C. T. 4717.—O.F. occident, 'the occident, the west;' Cot.—Lat.
occidentem, acc. of pres. pt. of occidere, to set (as the sun), go
down.—Lat. oc- (for ob before c); and cadere,
to fall; see Ob-
and Chance.
