OCCIPUT,
the back part of the skull. (L.) In Phillips, ed.
1706. [The adj. occipital is found earlier, in Minsheu, ed.
1627.]—Lat. occiput, the back of the head.—Lat. oc-
(for ob before c), over against; and caput, the
head. See Ob-
and Chief. Der. occipit-al, formed from occipit-,
crude form of occiput.
