OCTOSYLLABIC,
having eight syllables. (L.,—Gk.) Tyrwhitt, in his
Introd. to Chaucer, §
vii, speaks of 'the octosyllable metre,' without the suffix -ic.—Lat.
octosyllabus, adj., having 8 syllables.—Gk. ὀκτώ,
eight; and
συλλαβή, a syllable. See
