RANT,
to use violent language. (Du.) In Hamlet, v. 1. 307.—O.
Du. ranten; 'randen, or ranten, to dote, or to be enraged;'
Hexham. Cf. Low G. randen, to attack any one, to call out to
one. + G. ranzen, to toss about, to make a noise, to couple (as
animals). Perhaps allied to O.H.G. rázi, M.H.G. ræze, wild,
violent. Root uncertain. Der. rant-er.
