TAMPER,
to meddle, practise upon, play with. (F.,—L.) 'You have
been tampering, any time these three days Thus to disgrace me;' Beaum.
and Fletcher, The Captain, iv. 2 (Jacomo). The same word as temper,
but used in a bad sense; to temper is to moderate, allay by influence,
but is here made to mean to interfere with, to influence in a bad
way. See Temper.
