VEHEMENT, passionate,
very eager. (F.,—L.) In Palsgrave.—F. vehement,
'vehement;' Cot.—Lat. uehementem, acc., of uehemens,
passionate, eager, vehement. Lit. 'carried out of one's mind,' viz.
by passion; cf. E. de-ment-ed; obviously compounded of uehe- and mens,
the mind (for which see Mental).
β. Uehe- has been explained as meaning 'out of the way,' hence out of, beyond,
equivalent to some case of Skt. vaha, a way, which is derived from vah, to
carry. In any case, it is allied to Lat. uehere, to carry, cognate
with Skt. vah; see Vehicle. Der.

from F. vehemence, 'vehemence,' from Lat. uehementia.
