ZIGZAG,
having short, sharp turns. (F.,—G.)
In Pope, Dunciad, i. 124.—F.
zigzag.—G.
zickzack, a zigzag; zickzack segeln, to tack, in
sailing. We also find Swed. sicksack, zigzag (Widegren,
1788). Origin obscure; cf. Swed. sacka, Dan. sakke,
to have sternway; said of a ship.
