ADDYMAN.
An occupational name meaning "the
servant or knave of Addy," i.e. Adam;
v. Addy
and Addison.
This is decidedly interesting. It is one of the chief witnesses today of
the existence of the class of surnames to which it belongs. As a matter of
course its home is in Yorkshire; cf. Matthewman,
Peterman, Perryman,
Jackman, Bartleman,
&c.
