AGARD.
A baptismal name; v. Haggard.
Arthur Agard, a distinguished antiquary, was descended of an old Derbyshire
family. He was born in 1540, and died in 1615. He was one of the
original members of the Society of Antiquaries, and was buried in Westminster
Abbey. (Dict. Nat. Biog. i. 173, and Stauley's Westminster Abbey, p. 443.)
Haggard is the usual form of this patronymic.
