AITCHESON, AITCHISON, ACHESON, ACKERSON.  (1) A baptismal name meaning "the son of Archibald" (?), from the nickname Archie, a Scotch Border favourite; t intrusive, as in Ritchie, from same district, q.v.   (2) a baptismal name meaning "the son of Adkin," q.v.   A Border form of the great north English surname Atkinson.  This is the true source of the majority of Aitchesons, &c.
