ALBANY.
(1) A local name, meaning "de Albini," not the Scotch Albany. "William de Albini attended William the Conqueror. Wace
mentions him as "the butler d'Aubignie" (Lower). Hence the Earls
of Arundel. (2) A baptismal name meaning "the son of Alban,"
popularly Albany. This form has survived in some districts till
today.
