ALDHOUSE, ALDHOUS,
ALDIS, ALDOUS, ALDUS, ALLDISS.
Bardsley has: A baptismal name meaning "the
son of Aldus"; not local, as several of its corrupted forms would seem to
prove. These are simply imitative. The documentary proofs are
extremely strong. Norfolk has been a long-established home for this name,
both in its fontal and patronymic character. Arthur
has: ALDIS. (Saxon) A contraction of ald-house,
the old house.
