ALFORD, ALFORTH.   Bardsley has:  a local name meaning "of Alford."  Parishes in cos. Linc. and Somerset, and no doubt smaller spots in various counties, as meaning "the old ford."   For the form Alforth, v. Forth.

Arthur has:  (Saxon)  From Alford, a town in Lincolnshire, England, signifying the old ford or way, from ald, old, and ford, a ford, way, or pass.
