Origin and Etymology of the Surname ALFORT.
|
|
ALFORT.
From the name of a village in France, named
after a manor there built by Peter of Aigueblanche, Bishop of Hereford, England,
in the mid-13th-century, which is a corruption of Hallefort, to Harefort,
and finally Alfort. It is of Norman origin, from halle
"rock" and fort "strength," hence
"rock-strong."
