ALLOTT, ALLETT, ALLETSON, ALLOT.   A baptismal name meaning "the son of Alot"; query, a form of Eliot, with Eliota as fem.; v. Elliot.   In the Ulverston Registers, co. Lanc., the forms are Alletson, Aletson, Elatson, all representing the same patronymic Eliotson; v. Alletson in Index of Registers of St. Mary, Ulverston.   In any case the surname, with its variants, is of fontal origin.
