|
ALLOWAY, ALLAWAY.
A baptismal name meaning "the son of Aldwy";
v. Allaway and Allvey,
where Alway is clearly identified. From Alway or Allway to Alloway
is an easy gradation; cf. Ottaway
or Greenaway
for Otway
and Greenway.
Alloway has ramified somewhat strongly in America. But it
arose in England. No connexion with local Holloway;
v. Allaway.
