ELVEY. A baptismal
name meaning "the son of Aldwy," a fontal or personal name long ago
forgotten in England, but it lives today in several patronymics. Of some
land in Somerton, co. Norfolk, it is said "the Conqueror had granted this
to Alwy de Tetford" (FF. xi. 197).
