ALSTON, ALSTONE.   Bardsley has:  A local name meaning "of Alston," a parish in co. Cumberland; a chapelry in the parish of Ashburton, co. Devon; a township in the parish of Ribchester, co. Lanc., &c.   Also Alstone, a hamlet in the suburbs of Cheltenham, and a chapelry in the parish of Overbury, co. Worc.

Charnock has:  ALSTON.  From als-ton, the hill by the sea-shore.
