An occupational name meaning "the ambler," one who looked after the
amblers in his lord's stables; one who taught horses to amble. Lower says
"le Ambleur, Fr., an officer of the king's stable."
Almost akin to Palfreyman,
q.v. This surname has ramified strongly in Yorkshire.
