AMPHLETT.   A local name meaning "of Amfleet," one of many local names found on the east coast of England, from Durham to Suffolk, which have -fleet for their suffix, a shallow creek.  Mr. Lower quotes Lambarde's Dictionary:  "Amflete, Amfleot, et aliis Ampleot, a have in France, as I gesse, near Boloigne"; v. Patr. Brit. p. 8.]
