ANSTY, ANSTICE, ANSTISE, ANSTISS.
(1) A baptismal name meaning "the son of Anastasia," from the nickname
Anstie and Anstice. "Anstiss, Anstish, Anstyce, all occur
frequently as female names in the older pages of a Devonshire parish, where
Anstice is now a surname": Yonge, i. 250. (2) A local
name meaning "of Anstey" or "Ansty." Parishes in
diocese of Peterborough, Sarum, St. Albans, Exeter, and Worcester.
This will concern Anstey, Anstie, and Ansty only. Anstice, Anstis,
and Anstiss are undoubtedly to be placed under (1).
