ARCHPRIEST.
An official name meaning "the archpriest," a chief priest, a vicar to
a bishop, later a rural dean; v. H.E.D. The term was in use in the
17th century, for Smith, the "silver-tongued" preacher, speaks of
"priest, or priests, or archpriests, or any such like": God's
Arrow against Atheists.
