ARDERNE, ARDEN, ARDRON.
A local name meaning "of Arderne." The present
representatives in south-east Lanc. directories preserve the spellings, as Arden
and Ardren are frequently found in the records of the family. They
resided at Harden Hall, near Stockport, and are reputed to have been an early
branch of the Warwickshire Ardernes; v. East Cheshire, i. 161.
