ARGENT, ARGENTINE.   A local name meaning "of" or "from Argentan," a town in south Normandy.   David de Argentomago was a tenant-in-chief under the Conqueror in cos. Bedford and Camb.   His descendants were ennobled as Barons Argentine (Lower).
