Dictionary of Family Names

Origin and Etymology of the Surname ARON, ARREND.

From A Dictionary of English and Welsh Surnames, by C. W. E. Bardsley, A. Bardsley, 1901.

ARON, ARREND.   A baptismal name meaning "the son of Aaron."  Generally of Jewish descent, but not necessarily so in all cases.  Arran with an excrescent d, became Arrend; cf. gownd for gown, or Simmonds for Simmons.  There can be no doubt about the fact that Arrend is Aaron in disguise.
