(1) A baptismal name meaning
"the son of Arthur," a corruption of Arthurs or Arters; v. Arthur.
The final s will thus be patronymic, as in Williams, Jones, Jennings,
Wilkins, &c. (2) A local name meaning "of Artois."
The two first (not Artson) might easily be so derived.
