Origin and Etymology of the Surname ASKIN,
ASKINS, HASKIN, HASKINS.
|
|
From A Dictionary
of English and Welsh Surnames, by C. W. E. Bardsley, A. Bardsley,
1901.

|
ASKIN, ASKINS, HASKIN,
HASKINS.
A baptismal name meaning "the son of Asketin" (?), an O.F. diminutive
of Askettle. As Askettle became undoubtedly Askell,
q.v., so Asketin probably became Askin; v. Astell.
Nevertheless, I am not quite satisfied with this solution. Like Wilkin and
Wilkins from William, it would appear that Askin and Askins
represent a popular nickname of some once familiar personal name.
