ASPINELL. A local name meaning "of
Aspinwall," a property in the parish of Aughton, co. Lanc.; lit. "the
aspen-well," i.e. the poplar-well, the well by the poplar-trees; cf. Popplewell.
We still speak of "trembling like an aspen-leaf."
