Origin and Etymology of the Surname ASTIN,
ASTEN, ASTINS.
|
|
From A Dictionary
of English and Welsh Surnames, by C. W. E. Bardsley, A. Bardsley,
1901.
|
|
ASTIN, ASTEN, ASTINS.
A baptismal name meaning "the
son of Austin," an early variant. Of course the majority of the
representatives of these variants of Austin are now lost in the local surname Aston,
q.v. This was inevitable, hence the scarcity of modern instances; v.
Aust.
The diminutive Austiline is also found.
