AVES, AVIS, AVISON.
Bardsley has: A baptismal name meaning "the son of Avis,"
originally Hawisia or Hawoyse. This very soon settled into Avicia, Avice,
or Avis. It was decidedly popular for several centuries. (For

Arthur has: AVIS.
Avis, in French, is a projector, schemer, busy-body. Avus,
Latin, a grandfather, ancestor. Avis, a bird.
