JACKMAN.
An occupational name meaning "the man of Jack," i.e. the servant of
Jack; cf. Addyman,
Peterman, Matthewman.
I find no evidence that Jackman was a man who wore a jack, as suggested
by Mr. Lower; cf. Jakeman.
