YEWDALL, YEUDALL,
YOUDALE. A
local name meaning "of Yewdale." Probably the Yorkshire Yewdalls
are sprung from some small dale of that name in the West or North Riding.
There is a Yewdale at the northern end of Coniston Lake, which seems to have
originated a surname. As the first recorded instance is found in the
immediate neighbourhood of Skipton, it may be that the Coniston vale is the true
parent of all the Yewdalls.
